Biography

Jack Tranter practices in the firm's health law and litigation groups. He represents hospitals, nursing homes, physicians, and other health care providers in a wide variety of matters, including litigation, regulatory compliance, antitrust, and health planning.

Prior to returning to private practice, Jack was an Assistant United States Attorney and Chief of Civil Cases in the Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Maryland, where he was involved in medical malpractice, Federal Torts Claims Act, employment discrimination, and other types of civil litigation. Jack also served as Deputy Counsel to the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and an Assistant Attorney General in the Office of the Attorney General for the State of Maryland from 1976 to 1983.

Jack has been active in a number of professional organizations, including the Commission to Revise the Annotated Code of Maryland, a gubernatorial appointment. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers of America since its inception, and appears in Chambers USA, Who's Who in American Law, and Maryland Super Lawyers for his work in health care law. He is a permanent member of the United States Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference.
